Nylas Rebrand 

Nylas is transforming the digital landscape with a powerful API platform that allows developers to build world-class communications experiences.

I joined Nylas as Head of Brand/Creative Director when the brand was ripe for change. Jumping into my role, I built the design team up from scratch and led a successful rebrand in record time: 9 months. My work included defining the overarching creative strategy, guiding the development of a new design system and all creative output, driving the creation of impactful campaigns and managing and mentoring a team of designers, writers, and agency partners.

Problem

Nylas had limited brand equity and needed to revamp its brand in order to distinguish itself and build trust in the API market. In addition, its audience was expanding from just developers to enterprise leaders.

We focused on solving the following issues in the rebrand:

• No clear brand promise
• Uninspiring messaging
• Generic look and feel
• Lack of a distinct personality
• Limited emotional resonance
• Too developer-focused

Solution

The first step was to distill down the messaging, ensuring it was clear and succinct. Next, we refined the voice and personality making it easy-to-understand and relatable.

With this foundation in place, we developed a fresh, modern visual identity with a touch of whimsy. The result is a memorable logo, sleek and attractive illustrative style, inspiring UI, and a fun mascot to surprise and delight. The brand clarifies the Nylas mission, humanizes the technology, and resonates with all audiences.
